First of all we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who kindly donated during our charity event for Happy Days Children's Charity. The children were all very excited to take part in our "March of the Elephants" event, and they completed their charity walk alongside a very special guest, Elephant (Viki!), who came to march along with the children to show support.
We will be continuing our charity event throughout the month by completing our daily walks. Thank you for your continuing support!
To mark the start of Sandwich Week, Reception have been making their own sandwiches using their own plastic knives to spread the butter carefully, before getting their filling and adding it on to the plate. We then carefully cut our sandwiches into rectangles or squares, and used our maths skills to talk about the shapes, counting their sides and corners and exploring halves and quarters.
The Reception children have also been learning all about vegetables this week. The "vegetable of the day" was broccoli and we looked at how this vegetable helps our bodies and how it is good for our blood. The children explored with "blood" (red custard), added baked beans as the red blood cells and white beans and the white blood cells. We added tweezers to the activity and discussed how when we have an infection, we will get more white blood cells. We then used play dough to construct our own hearts, discussing how the shape of a heart was not what we thought!
We had a wonderful week, and we may even have some budding hematologists in the making here at The Stables!
