Today Reception took their PE lesson outside. The children enjoyed doing stretches and warm ups, extending their physical development skills and using stopwatches to time their friends running around the garden!

Yesterday was fruit tasting day!
The Reception children went out to have a look in our planters and to see if we could find any fruit and vegetables that may have been growing in them. The children enjoyed communicating with each other, talking about what they had found and helping each other to dig up the potatoes. We used our mathematical skills to compare sizes and weight, and discussed how long we thought they may have been growing for.
We talked about how the potatoes were created and what we thought they would have needed in the environment to help them grow. We could tell the children had been listening to our conversations last year as most of them knew that the rain and the sunshine had helped to create everything in our planters, along with a little help from our budding gardeners of course!!

The Early Learner room have had lots of fun today celebrating National Water Day. We washed the baby dolls in bubbly warm water, created an under-the-sea Happyland village and explored using pipettes to add drops of water to mirrors to make our faces look funny and wobbly!

Reception have had a busy week this week celebrating Children's Art Week, Wimbledon and nursery being back open for one whole year since lockdown!
We have had lots of messy play using a wide variety of resources to explore the different patterns, pictures and textures we can make. We added paper to our garden fence outside and used crayons to make marks with. We also created a large scale painting to make a banner for Wimbledon, tracing the letters with our paintbrushes, before adding LOTS of SPARKLES!

First of all we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who kindly donated during our charity event for Happy Days Children's Charity. The children were all very excited to take part in our "March of the Elephants" event, and they completed their charity walk alongside a very special guest, Elephant (Viki!), who came to march along with the children to show support.

The babies brought the outside inside recently and have been showing a huge interest in physical play, developing their gross and fine motor skills, and learning about movement and exploration with different apparatus.

We have been having alot of fun today for Chinese New Year!
The baby room have been making dragons with red and gold glitter play dough. They were very creative and added feathers and spaghetti, and used mark making tools so that they could create their own perfect creatures.

Well what a year 2020 has been. It's brought challenges none of us have had to face before but we are so proud of how we have all pulled together as a team, as an industry and as a country to somehow make it to Christmas, whatever that may look like this year. We hope that you all have a very happy Christmas Day and we are all looking forward to a happier and healthier 2021.

It's really sad that we haven't been able to hold our usual nativity and carol concert this year. Instead the children have created their very own videos in their smaller bubbles to share with you over the next few days in the lead up to Christmas.

This week the babies have been exploring with textures and have loved being involved in sensory play of all kinds. The children especially loved jelly play and being able to feel it between their fingers.

On Friday we said Goodbye to our little Reception superstars of 2020. We had a festival theme seeing as there haven't been any this year. There was not a dry eye in the house and when the parents came to collect the children we saw a few tears then too.

Reception have had so much fun with their learning this week. Our topic has been "Transport", with a focus on boats to follow the children's interests.
We have also been exploring letter and name recognition, which we have incorporated into our activities. We have gone on treasure hunts at the ''beach'' to find our letter for our names, and used our fine motor skills to create tracks for the boats. Some of us were able to write letters for the boats to drive around.

Welcome to our Hawaiian Party!
We all had a fantastic time at our Hawaiian dressing up and party day. We dressed up in grass skirts, made our own flower necklaces, decorated surfboards, and the we went out into the garden to dance to Hawaiian music.

What a week it has been at The Stables!
All week we have been fundraising for Callum Foy's Fight Against Cancer.
Callum is a young 10 year old boy from Warrington, who suffers from a condition called Neurofibromatosis which can cause tumours to form anywhere on the body. Callum needs to go to Germany to receive Proton Beam Therapy and his family and friends have been fundraising to help with the financial burden of Callum's treatment.
Here at The Stables we have been helping all we can and have been taking part in several sponsored activities to try and help raise the finds that Callum's family so desperately need.

This summer at The Stables we are going to be learning all about the World with the help of our favourite book, What The Ladybird Heard, by Julia Donaldson.
The ladybird has been very busy, flying around the world, listening for news to share with us!
We have been asking family and friends of The Stables to send postcards to our nursery from around the world with the words “I am the ladybird and I heard…” with a sentence telling us about the country or city the postcard was sent from. We will pin our postcards to our world map to see just how far our ladybird has travelled!
