Get Your Geek On!

15 March 2018

It's Science Week!

Everyone at The Stables have been very bust this week celebrating science week... so it's time to get your geek on and look at all the amazing experiments we have been doing from taste testing to water experiments to making lava lamps...

Tickling Our Tastebuds

The reception children learned all about sweet and sour, using their taste buds. First we predicted whether we thought the items would taste sweet or sour, then we had some fun tasting all the different items. We tasted bread, golden syrup, marmite, sprinkles and lemon juice.

I Can Melt A Rainbow

The Children had fun using a hair dryer to melt crayons all colours of the rainbow. We also experienced 'wind' with the cool setting of the hairdryer. We looked at all the colours mixing and different temperatures, and how wind feels on your face.

Swish, Swirl & Bubble

We experimented with food colouring, milk and washing up liquid. The washing up liquid caused the food colouring
to swish and move across the milk causing it to mix and swirl and make patterns. The children observed closely, saying "Wow" and "Cool" whilst watching. We even made our own lava lamps with baby oil, coloured water and alka seltzer.

Staying Dry

The reception children took part in another science experiment using zip lock bags, water and pencils. We pushed the pencils through the bag all the way to the ther side without getting wet. (Although Danielle did get wet feet in the end!)
